Amanzi by George Masarira
Amanzi [Ah-mahn-zee], means water in several southern African languages.
In this original oil painting, George Masarira depicts the joy that water brings to drought stricken communities. He highlights the traditional practice of women balancing large containers on their heads, accompanied by a young boy helping with this vital chore.
He says: "Water is so precious to us here. Whether it is rain water, collected from a well, reservoir or a water-pump... it means life continues."
Amanzi is mounted in one of Harmattan's signature, hand-carved, wooden frames.
